Jim Fitterling Joins Bank of America's Board

PRISM: The Association of LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors congratulates Jim Fitterling, Executive Chairman of Dow and a founding member of the PRISM Leadership Circle, on his appointment to the Board of Directors of Bank of America, effective October 21, 2026.

Bank of America named Fitterling to its board alongside Bill Thomas, former Global Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of KPMG International. In announcing the appointments, Lionel Nowell III, the bank's Lead Independent Director, called them "valuable additions to our Board."

Fitterling served as Dow's Chief Executive Officer from 2018 to 2026 and has chaired its board since 2020, capping a career of more than four decades at the company. He has served on the 3M board since 2021 and was named its lead director in 2024. He has chaired the National Association of Manufacturers and the American Chemistry Council, and is a member of the World Economic Forum's International Business Council.

One of the few openly gay executives to have led a Fortune 500 company, Fitterling joined the PRISM Leadership Circle this month as one of its 13 inaugural members, a network of experienced LGBTQ+ directors who help open doors for the next generation of board leaders.

The appointment comes at a moment when visibility at the top matters more than ever. PRISM's latest research counts 45 openly LGBTQ+ Fortune 500 board seats, down from 50 in 2024.
